Experimental happening
By Nancy Nourse

"The world of art and the world of technology may seem to have little in common but the latest show at Sherbrooke's Galerie D'Art Horace proves to differ: both are continuously evolving and exploring new territory.
And the two will mix for one night this weekend with a show called Espace [im] media. It's a series of short, experimental videos and performances by Quebec artists, looking at how sound and visual concepts affect the way in which we view things.
The artists will use symbolism to get their message across to their audiences. Similar to the way that traditional mimes (and the not so traditional Blue Troop) create an image or teel a story, some of these young performers will use their bodies, interacting with another to depict the image created by the different sounds that they (and you) hear and images seen on the screen. They're creating a floating form of art.
"In a professional context, this happening is designed to develop new talents and new audiences for a world that views the art of today as a meeting place between more traditional forms of art and performances of an audio-visual and projection nature, crating a unique essence of a musical nature," says program coordinator Catherine Longpré.
The public can also chat with some of the artists whose work will be shown on Saturday evening, including Gwendael Belanger and Stephane Beaudet, whose video is about the sights and sounds of things falling to the ground."
